Doogie Bowser-The Doogie Fund for senior Fox TerriersWhen you make your donation, it goes to the general rescue fund, or you can write in that you would like it to go to the Doogie Fund. The Doogie Fund was established to help defray medical expenses for senior Fox Terriers coming into rescue. Fox Terrier Rescue does not turn dogs away based on age. We have a few wonderful volunteers who step up to the plate and take these dogs in. We want to assist these fine folks in doing this, as well as honor Doogie Bowser.

Buy Fox Terrier Merchandise and contribute to Fox Terrier Rescue!Doogie Bowser came to us in November, 1991 after having been taken in by Fox Terrier Rescue as a stray. He was in dire need of grooming and he hid in the closet whenever anyone came in the house.

I have to say it was not love at first sight for either of us. He was fearful of me and I was just sure he was going to bite me. After a few months, we learned to trust each other and slowly we even became friends. One night after nearly a year, Doogie fell asleep in my arms while we were sitting on the couch. I’ll never forget that day…that was the day we bonded. We formed a bond which would last 13 more years and I have to say he was the best friend I’ve ever had.

Doogie was probably the craziest dog I’ve ever seen. If he thought he had found an escape route out of the house, he was gone in a flash. If an animal came on the TV, Doogie would lunge at it and he knocked the portable TV on the floor more times than I can count. Anything that even remotely looked like water meant running and leaping in at full speed. The hot tub was one of his favorite splashing areas.

Doogie was the rock I leaned on during many difficult periods of my life. We’ll never forget the little dance he did when he wanted a treat or how he would prance so proudly after being groomed. As we watched him grow old and feeble, we felt it was a privilege to care for this wonderful dog who had given us so much. Doogie went to the Bridge on September 3, 2005. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Addendum from Fox Terrier Rescue:

Doogie was special to all of us. Not only was he John’s and Craig’s beloved pet, he was the first dog placed by Fox Terrier Rescue. When looking back, never did we think we would have come so far in rescue. It all started with the Doog.
